Senate 150 Medal awarded to Serge Leroueil for contribution in engineering and geotechnics
Ottawa, November 29, 2017 – Today, Senator Rosa Galvez (Quebec – Bedford) awarded Dr. Serge Leroueil from Quebec, QC, with the Senate 150 Medal in a ceremony in the Senate Chamber. The Senate 150 Medals are awarded by Senators to Canadians whose generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work make their communities a better place.
Dr. Serge Leroueil is a geotechnical engineer and retired professor of Laval University in Quebec City. His expertise ranges from soil mechanics and foundations to the analysis of soil behaviour. He has authored more than 300 scientific articles, including studies on natural disasters and landslides in Canada and around the world. His work becomes ever more important for infrastructure resiliency in the context of climate change and landslides caused by floods and seismicity.
Along with Dr. Leroueil, Senator Galvez nominated Dr. Hellen Christodoulou (Montreal, QC) and Dr. Catalina Lopez-Correa (Vancouver, BC) for their exceptional contribution to science and engineering in Canada.
